Gallagher is a very shy guy and he will need a very special family willing to allow him lots of time to open up to a new human. He’s never shown any aggression towards people, but he does not approach unfamiliar people, in fact, he will likely retreat to the safety of his dog house to avoid interaction. That’s heartbreaking to the shelter volunteers because we know he has so much love to share once he feels comfortable with people. While it may take some effort to earn his trust, but we know he’s worth it.

We don’t usually know the story behind every dog brought into the shelter, but we do know at least part of Gallagher’s story. He and his female companion, Jennifer, were brought to the rescue in January 2022, by some of our shelter volunteers. These volunteers had spent several weeks taking daily visits to the dogs to gain their trust after they were left behind in an abandoned home in the middle of winter. Sadly sweet Jennifer passed in April 2023 from kidney failure. She was his everything, his rock, his security. She helped Gallagher open up and trust new volunteers, he followed her lead. Their bond was a very special one.

Gallagher has a special place in the hearts of many of the volunteers. We would like nothing more than to have him find his forever home. If you are willing to open your heart and home to a very special dog, it will take some effort, but we can promise you it will certainly be worth it.
